Preserving a Legacy
Built Against All Odds

Friends of Meadowbrook Golf Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit preservation organization established in 2010 with one mission: to save, preserve, and share the history of Meadowbrook Country Club.

FOMGC is separate and apart from the original club. We did not build Meadowbrook. The founders of 1959 did. Our work is to make sure the world never forgets.

A Charter for Preservation

The Friends of Meadowbrook Golf Club is a volunteer charitable organization dedicated to assisting, supporting, and inspiring the revitalization and reawakening of Historic Meadowbrook Park.

We are guided by the principles of inclusion set forth by the 1959 founding fathers and charter members of Meadowbrook.

Preservation & Membership

  • Foster an active membership that works in a spirit of cooperation to promote the preservation of Historic Meadowbrook Park as a historic site.
  • Acknowledge the significant contributions to recreation, entertainment, historic cultural, and social legacy built by the founders of Meadowbrook Country Club.

Toward a Partnership with the Town of Garner

  • Pursue a formal partnership with the Town of Garner that reflects a deepening commitment to the legacy of Meadowbrook for future generations.
  • Work toward the restoration of the driving range, putting green, putt-putt area, and the Clubhouse — envisioned as the Meadowbrook Museum and Event Center.
  • Advocate for three additional golf holes and a First Tee partnership serving un-served, low-income, and disadvantaged youth through the game of golf.

Fundraising & Financial Stewardship

  • Raise funds, grants, and donations to support the restoration of Historic Meadowbrook Park, in support of a proposed partnership with the Town of Garner.
  • Increase sponsorships and contributions utilizing Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code to encourage further philanthropic support.
  • Recruit volunteers to donate their time to fundraisers supporting the restoration of Historic Meadowbrook Park.

Museum, Education & Cultural Heritage

  • Help create a Museum and Event Center that anchors Meadowbrook Park and serves the community — collecting, researching, and preserving historic artifacts, photos, and audio-visual collections that tell the story of Historic Meadowbrook Golf Course.
  • Provide informal and formal education through exhibitions, workshops, and school programs to foster appreciation for art and history.
  • Stimulate local economies through tourism and share the stories of diverse cultures — giving the community a sense of pride and belonging.

Inclusion & Community Access

  • Enrich and inspire the lives of un-served, low-income, and disadvantaged individuals with integrity, honesty, and sportsmanship through access and inclusion into the revitalized park community.
  • Promote a closer bond among club members and the underprivileged through educational programs, mentoring, scholarships, social events, and challenge-reward programs.

Stewardship & Park Maintenance

  • Provide leadership and assurance that the conditions of all Historic Meadowbrook Park areas are properly maintained.
  • Commit to leaving Historic Meadowbrook Park in better condition than found — greens, driving range, teeing areas, fairways, roughs, putt-putt, pond, pro shop, clubhouse, playground, and picnic areas.

Our Mission

What We Exist to Do

FOMGC exists to ensure the history of Meadowbrook Country Club is preserved, documented, and shared — as a significant chapter in American civil rights history.

1. Preserve the Archive

Digitize and protect photographs, founding documents, meeting minutes, scorecards, and personal records before deterioration makes them unrecoverable.

2. Build the Memorial

Fund and establish a permanent educational memorial at Meadowbrook Park, honoring all 45 charter members by name.

3. Capture Living Memory

Record oral histories and personal accounts from charter member families and longtime members before that firsthand knowledge is gone forever.

4. Educate the Public

Develop educational programming for Wake County schools and ensure Meadowbrook Park tells the complete story of what stood here.
